3 Easy Tips to Prevent Dry Hair

prevent dry hair

I don’t know about you,  but around this chilly time of the year, my hair tends to get brittle and dry. I’ve tried different shampoos, hair oils, and styling methods to try and preserve the moisture in my locks, but it’s been difficult to find something that actually works.

That’s why I turned to my amazing hairstylist, Jessica Wallace. She’s been doing my hair since I was 17, and I trust her with my hair more than anyone! So I asked her for her best tips and tricks for maintaining a healthy head of hair throughout the winter.

Are you struggling with dreary-looking strands too? If so, keep reading for three easy tips to prevent dry hair.

Use a night serum

Improving the health of your hair while you sleep? Yes, please! One of Jessica’s go-to tips for preventing dry hair is using a night serum. She suggests the Kérastase Nutritive 8H Magic Night Serum. It’s a leave-in, overnight treatment that nourishes and detangles your hair, leaving it feeling moisturized and lightweight when you wake up in the morning. The best part is that it works for all hair types!

Rinse with cold water

I love a hot shower as much as anyone, but rinsing my shampoo and conditioner out with cold water is something I’ve been doing since high school (as suggested to me by Seventeen Magazine). Whenever your hair is feeling extra dry, use cold water to rinse after applying your hair product to prevent further heat damage, lock in moisture, and prevent frizz.

Use silk pillowcases

I switched my sheets and pillowcases to silk products a few months ago, and I can already tell the difference it has made! It might not seem like the fabric you sleep on is a big deal, but cotton material can soak up your hair’s moisture and tangle your ends. Silk, on the other hand, is more gentle on your hair. Plus, it’s also better for your skin!
